As glorious as this house is for skiers, I can personally attest to its perfection for hang-out-all-day-in-the-housers. Due to some minor surgery, I just spent four heavenly days *all indoors* at Ilam House, and it is just stunning. Chris and Eugenie, you’ve thought of everything, every little comfort and convenience. It’s the house of my dreams.
We’re already plotting ways to get back, and I’m looking forward to the next women’s ski weekend, when I will….. actually….. SKI! Downhill.
many thanks and congratulations on the perfect vacation home,
Alison

How nice to go on vacation — and actually feel like you’ve been on vacation. Ilam House is so well-equipped that all the little routine tasks of daily living seem to take care of themselves. The house is so comfortable that it’s tempting to not want to leave it, even for the great skiing right out the front door. The hot tub was a highlight. Well-designed, a warm aesthetic, and how restful to wake up and see trees all around. Guests will leave feeling well-rested and invigorated at the same time. Highly recommended.

We had an awesome stroll to the put-in on the Upper B. It was running about 200 with only a little ice. We sure wish we had brought the boats! Next time for sure. Red Creek and the North Fork of the Blackwater are possible scouting expeditions for today. Next time we’re here lets hope the Upper B has some more water.

We had a very relaxing and play-filled weekend! The kids enjoyed a ping-pong tournament and the hot tub. Husband enjoyed sitting by the fire and playing Scrabble. I enjoyed knitting in the plush furniture, trying out all the seats like Goldilocks. My favorite thing about the house and this weekend, however, was how we could stretch out everywhere, including the kitchen. I wish my kitchen at home was as nice and functional as this one! I love the soapstone counter-tops and the 6 burner stove. My husband and I could work well together in the kitchen (quite a feat) AND enjoy the company of friends hanging out with us. Great traffic flow, great space to spread out in, and a very spa-like feel. Thanks so much! We’ll be back.

It was a chilly and drizzly night that we spent in absolute comfort at Ilam House, after kayaking on a nearby white water river. The location was close to so many of our favorite runs, that we had only to drive 1/2 hr. in any direction to be at the put-in of one of them. Thanks very much Chris for a little island of modernity in the midst of the great West Virginia outdoors. Very comfy!
